A venue is a business decision dressed as a romantic one. The space that makes your heart race on a site visit still has to hold your guests comfortably, fit your budget once the extras are added, and get everyone home safely. Fall in love second; do the maths first.
Match the space to your real numbers
"Capacity" is often quoted for a standing crowd, not a seated dinner with a dance floor, a band and catering stations. Ask for the seated capacity with your specific setup, and give the space room to breathe.

- Check accessibility — step-free routes, restrooms, parking.
Ask the questions that reveal the true cost
The rental fee is rarely the whole story. Before you compare two venues on price, make sure you are comparing like with like.
- What exactly is included — tables, chairs, linens, lighting, sound?
- Is catering in-house or must you use a preferred list? Are there minimums?
- What are the hours, and what does overtime cost per hour?
- Are there noise limits or a hard curfew?
- What is the deposit, payment schedule and cancellation policy?
Always visit at the same time of day and season as your event. Golden-hour light on a summer evening tells you nothing about a cold February afternoon in the same room — and always ask to see the wet-weather plan before you sign.
Think like a guest, and like a supplier
Walk the arrival: where do cars go, how far is the door, is there shelter if it rains? Then walk the load-in: can a caterer's van reach the kitchen, is there a service entrance, is there enough power for the band and lighting? The most beautiful venue in the world becomes a problem if a florist cannot get a ladder through the door.
Shortlist two or three, get everything in writing, and only then let yourself choose with your heart. A venue that works on paper and moves you in person is the one to book.
